why does it have to be activated within 15 days

A few days ago, we learned that Facebook was going to start making its Facebook Protect initiative mandatory. The latter aims to offer a better level of protection to politicians, activists, journalists… but also to all users of the social network. Indeed, from now on, some Facebook users are invited to activate the program, otherwise they will soon no longer have access to their favorite network.

Facebook Protect for everyone!

Also, by logging into your Facebook account in the coming days, you are likely to be greeted by a message that you will indicate “you have 15 days left to activate Facebook Protect“. The good news is that you are obviously one of the “elected” from Facebook, i.e. those whose account is likely to affect a lot of people (according to Facebook), and that your account therefore requires enhanced security. The bad news is that without action on your part within the specified 15 days, you will lose access to your account.

Indeed, Facebook requires the users concerned to activate Facebook Protect within 15 days. After this access period, the recalcitrant user will no longer have his account, as long as the option has not been activated. The procedure is particularly fast, and actually consists of configuring a connection in two steps. Exit therefore the simple password, since it will now go through an additional step to connect to his Facebook account, this of course in order to increase general security.

Obviously, if you have already activated double authentication, you will not have to configure anything to activate Facebook Protect. The system will detect that “the account meets the criteria for activating Facebook Protect“, confirming not only the security of the password, but also that the two-factor authentication is already activated. Then all you have to do is click on “Done”, and you will be able to access the social network again .

The Facebook Protect program was tested from 2018, to help those most likely to be targeted by hackers adopt higher protection measures on their accounts. It was notably extended to the United States in 2020, as part of the presidential election, and is therefore beginning to be injured in around fifty countries (including France) at the end of 2021.
