The taxi driver involved in a serious accident with his Tesla Model 3 in December 2021 has just filed a complaint against Tesla France for endangering the lives of others.
Last December, a serious accident involving a Tesla Model 3 occurred in the XIIIth arrondissement of Paris. Particularly violent with one dead and twenty injured, the shock was followed by the indictment of the owner, who filed a complaint this week against Tesla France.
A complaint against the builder for endangering the lives of others
The 57-year-old taxi driver, who was off duty that evening and was traveling with his wife and daughters, apparently lost control of his vehicle bought new in August 2021. The vehicle hit two pedestrians and a glass container, before ending up in a traffic light and then in another vehicle. The man was indicted for “manslaughter and involuntary injury by land motor vehicle” and placed under judicial supervision. This week, his lawyer Me Sarah Saldmann said he was filing a complaint against Tesla France.
“My client has always maintained the same version: the brake no longer worked, the accelerator got carried away and that is why he is filing a complaint for endangering the lives of others”explained to AFP the lawyer. The complaint was filed on March 18 at the Versailles prosecutor’s office, the headquarters of Tesla France located in Yvelines, west of Paris.
Technical failure or human error?
A first investigation is already underway in Paris, and must make it possible to determine whether there have been technical or human failures. Experts from the Judicial Accident Processing Service (STJA) are still analyzing the vehicle, and rather favor a technical failure. Tesla, for its part, carried out some checks remotely and affirmed that no technical failure is to be deplored.
The G7 taxi company allows Teslas to circulate again… after training
Following this large-scale accident, the G7 taxi company had suspended its Tesla Model 3 taxis. According to a first count, 37 vehicles were affected in the Île-de-France region. It would seem that this suspension of electric vehicles from the American manufacturer is over, since they are once again circulating in the streets of the capital. Our colleagues from Caradisiac affirm that the taxi company authorized the drivers to take back their Tesla after having followed a specific training, in particular to better understand safety and semi-autonomous driving equipment or system updates.
