Lucid Motors will face Tesla and others in Europe

Listed on the stock exchange in 2021, Lucid Motors is due to open its first European store on Friday in Munich (Germany) and plans to set up before the end of the year in other German cities as well as in the Netherlands, Norway and in Switzerland, the young company said in a press release.

Its unique model manufactured in its Arizona factory, the Lucid Air, promises a range of 653 kilometers for 480 horsepower. The first deliveries are invoiced for the end of the year in 14 European countries, with a call price of 100,000 euros (or 100,000 Swiss francs, or one million Norwegian crowns).

A special launch edition, the “Dream edition”, offers an engine inflated to 1,111 horsepower for a 0 to 100 km / h canon, in 2.7 seconds, and a price of around 220,000 euros.

The manufacturer, which has delivered 360 copies of its first vehicle since its launch at the end of 2021, plans to accelerate this year in assembler 12 to 14,000 “Air”, despite the logistical problems affecting the automotive industry.

The group, which has 4,700 employees, announced in early May that it had recorded 30,000 orders.

Saudi Arabia, the manufacturer’s largest shareholder, has also committed to buying 50,000 vehicles over 10 years, with an option for 50,000 additional cars, alongside the construction of a Lucid factory in the kingdom.

Sales of electric cars have risen sharply in Europe in recent months, with Tesla but also the Volkswagen and Stellantis groups as flagships. Driven by premium vehicles, electric cars now represent 10% of the market, with 224,000 units delivered in the first quarter of 2022 (+53.4% over one year).
