Instagram launches likes in stories: how it works

Instagram adds the ability to like stories

Instagram launches a new way to interact with content in private stories. The social network allows users to like stories without having to go to private DMs, as was the case until now when someone reacted to one of your stories.

The objective of the feature: to be able to show interest in story content and increase the engagement rate, while limiting the influx of messages in DM. As announced by Instagram boss Adam Mosseri, the feature is already being rolled out.

How does liking stories on Instagram work?

As Adam Mosseri explains, users have seen a new heart-shaped icon appear, located at the very bottom of the screen between the “Send a message” option and the sharing option (paper plane icon ) when watching stories. All you have to do is press this button for the author of a story to get a like.

Likes remain private and are not visible to users, only the person who posted the story on Instagram can see these likes. A count of likes and “liked” users is displayed in the statistics available for each story.
