The announcement was expected, it did not drag. On the occasion of its opening conference of the Google I / O, the Mountain View company officially presented its new generation of wireless headphones and the first to benefit from an active noise reduction feature, the Google Pixel Buds Pro.

After several years of launching headphones with a wire, then completely wireless, Google is now entering the high-end wireless headphones segment. The main difference between these new headphones and the Pixel Buds or Pixel Buds A is clearly the integration of an active noise reduction function.

Unlike the firm’s previous models, Google has decided to separate itself from the event system to ensure the best possible passive isolation. In addition to passive isolation, Google has integrated microphones in beamforming capable of analyzing ambient noise to reduce it through phase inversion. Of course, in addition to noise reduction, a transparent mode is also present.

To analyze and reduce ambient noise, Google has designed its own earphone processor. It’s a six-core processor with a neural engine to analyze ambient noise on the fly and instantly reduce it in sound reproduction.

Multipoint Bluetooth, Google Assistant and Spatial Audio

In addition to these active noise reduction functions, the Google Pixel Buds Pro are compatible with multipoint Bluetooth. They could thus be used at the same time with a smartphone or with a Windows PC. The headphones also natively benefit from Google Assistant, which can be activated directly by voice. Google also specifies that its headphones will be compatible with “Find my device”including if the user has lost only one of the two headphones.

Finally, later in the year, Google indicates that its new high-end headphones will be updated to take advantage of the new spatial audio feature, also unveiled this Wednesday and which will arrive at the same time as Android 13.

On the autonomy side, Google announced that its users could enjoy 7 hours of listening time with noise reduction and up to 11 hours in passive mode. The firm did not, however, detail all the characteristics of its plays. We do not know in particular the acoustic formula of the Pixel Buds Pro, just like the compatible codecs.

The Google Pixel Buds Pro will be available for pre-order on July 21 for $199 before going on sale on July 28. Four colors will be offered: coral, yellow, blue or black. On its French online store, Google announces that the headphones will be offered in France ” soon “ at the price of 219 euros.
