Apple, Google and Microsoft want to remove passwords

Are you struggling to find your way around with all your passwords to access your accounts on the web?

Apple, Google and Microsoft announced plans to expand support for a common passwordless login standard created by theFIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium. The new feature offers websites and apps the ability to offer internet users password-free logins across all devices and platforms.

Users logged in with the same action they took multiple times a day to unlock their devices, such as a fingerprint or face verification, or a device PIN. This new approach would protect against phishing and the connection would be radically more secure compared to passwords and multifactor technologies provided such as one-time access codes sent by SMS, promises the FIDO Alliance, the industry association which aims to develop authentication standards that reduce reliance on passwords.
