New, StoreDot has successfully demonstrated live its extremely fast charging battery technology, capable of delivering 100 miles in 5 minutes of charging. The demonstration took place at EcoMotion Week 2022 in Israel and was broadcast live to a global audience. The latter brings together the main car manufacturers, including General Motors, Volvo, Ford, Continental, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and Hyundai. Enough to impress future customers and competitors: full box for the start-up!
What is StoreDot?
StoreDot is a pioneer and leader in extremely fast charging batteries (XFC) which overcomes the major obstacle to the adoption of EVs by the general public: anxiety related to range and charging.
The company has revolutionized the conventional Li-ion battery by designing and synthesizing proprietary organic and inorganic compounds, making it possible to charge an electric vehicle in just five minutes – the same time it takes to refuel a conventional combustion engine vehicle.
Through its “100inX” strategic roadmap, StoreDot’s battery technology is optimized for better driver experience with XFC in Li-ion batteries and future technologies for Extreme Energy Density (XED).
In 2019, the company achieved a world first by demonstrating charging a two-wheeled EV live in just five minutes. In 2020, the company demonstrated the scalability of its XFC batteries, and it is on track to produce batteries for electric vehicles at scale by 2024.
What are the key points of the demonstration?
– All cell parameters including state of charge, temperature, voltage and charge capacity were monitored live during the demonstration. No cheating possible!
– StoreDot battery technologies deliver 100 miles in 5 minutes by 2024, 100 miles in 3 minutes by 2028, and 100 miles in 2 minutes a decade from now. A technological revolution on its own…
– StoreDot’s technology roadmap eliminates range and charging anxiety to bring about a step change in sustainable mobility. In a hurry to enjoy it.
What exactly happened?
The demonstration featured a 300x100mm pocket cell produced at EVE energy’s manufacturing facility in China. The battery was charged within 10 minutes, during which the cell charged to 20Ah, exceeding the 0% to 80% capacity target set for the demonstration.
The cell maintained a charge rate capable of adding 100 miles of range for every 5 minutes of charging. At no time did the battery temperature exceed 33 degrees Celsius, well below the operating temperature recommended by StoreDot engineers and all critical cell parameters performed at optimum levels.
What will change next?
As illustrated by the company’s ambition, the idea is of course to allow a greater peace of mind among EV owners. Indeed, the anguish of the breakdown is one of the brakes for its development!
Unlike thermal cars whose pumps appear here and there, the charging stations did not bloom as the fervent defenders of the electric expected. Which is a pity because today it is what penalizes its expansion.
But inventions such as StoreDot batteries give hope! Thus, it is not too late to consider fast and efficient recharging, which wastes no more time than filling up with petrol or diesel for drivers…
Good news, therefore, for the electrical industry!
