a single compromise for a lower price

Huawei has just formalized the P50e. This smartphone is a copy of the P50… cheaper.

After the Huawei P50 and P50 Pro, here is the P50e. Huawei’s objective is to take over the positive points of the P50 by lowering the selling price. So compromises had to be made…and that’s what was done.

Only one compromise on the menu

The P50e comes with the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G, without a 5G modem given the embargo imposed by the United States. The first compromise is therefore related to performance, the P50 being equipped with the Snapdragon 888 4G.

For the rest, the camera system is the same as that of the Huawei P50, as well as the screen, the battery, the fast charge or the amount of RAM. Yes… the camera system of the Huawei P50e is identical to that of the P50. The main sensor is 50 megapixels, accompanied by a second 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens that offers 5x optical zoom.

It also shares the battery and the fast charging system, 4,100 mAh of capacity and 66 W in wired charging. The screen is also the same, a 90 Hz OLED panel in Full HD + definition.

Still handicapped by the absence of 5G and Google services

As for the software, Huawei has not changed its formula. This smartphone comes with HarmonyOS 2, obviously without Google services. It’s always a shame to see Huawei’s efforts to design these products which are limited, good, by American blockades. Huawei was even kicked out of the top 5 smartphone makers in its home market, with the lack of 5G certainly being the main disincentive to purchase.

For the moment, this P50e has only been formalized in China. There are two versions, 8 + 128 GB at 585 euros excluding tax and 8 + 256 GB at 640 euros excluding tax.
